A WOMAN who stayed at Pontins’ Prestatyn Sands site with her friend has told of her “disgusting” experiences, which included finding a dead mouse and pubic hairs in apartment rooms.
Mariah Sutton and her friend Brittanie, both 24, travelled from Birmingham to the site, where they stayed for three nights from May 20 until 23.
The park, and Prestatyn itself, held many fond childhood memories for Mariah, whose parents would often book family weekends away there, and elsewhere in Wales, when she was younger.
Prestatyn was also where her father’s ashes were scattered, such was his fondness of the town, and where her grandfather died.
But she admitted her feelings and memories of the site have been soured somewhat following her return in May, with issues stemming almost immediately after her and Brittanie’s arrival.
Mariah said: “Upon arrival, there were already customers there kicking off about other things.
“At first glance, I thought the apartment was filthy anyway, then all of a sudden, Brittanie screamed, and said: ‘Mariah, there’s a dead mouse on the floor’.
“We were both in a state of shock. Brittanie was livid. When I saw the mouse, I thought it was fake because it looked so fresh; it must have died that day.
“We went back to reception, where there was another person arguing, which made us feel bad about causing another argument.
“Brittanie asked when the apartment was last cleaned, and they assured us they’re cleaned every day.
“They offered us another apartment, and we went there, it was filthy. The floors hadn’t been brushed.”
Mariah added that, almost four months on from their trip, she and Brittanie have yet to receive a full of refund they were promised of the £80 they paid for the accommodation.
As well as finding a dead mouse on the floor of the first room, they said second room had pubic hairs in the bath, no hot water initially, and mould on the windows and blinds.
She said that, despite being offered 20 per cent off her next trip to Prestatyn Sands, she will never go back there, and urged Pontins to address the cleanliness issues facing the park.
Last week, a mum from Droylsden labelled Prestatyn Sands “an absolute mess”, telling the Journal of her disappointment with the facilities at, and cleanliness of, the site after three nights three with her partner and daughter, eight.
A family from Neston, Cheshire also said they left Prestatyn Sands two days early due to such issues as closures, lack of facilities, and minimal food stock at the park.

Mariah said: “When we then went back again to complain, we were promised a full refund; it was on a written complaint that the manager had been signed. I’ve been battling for that since but haven’t had it.
“I know it’s only £80, but it’s the principle of it.”
“It (rest of the holiday) was pretty much awful. The whole park is so run-down; there was nothing they could offer us that would make it better.
“We didn’t have enough money to buy other accommodation in Prestatyn; we brought our own sleeping bags, but we were so reluctant to even sleep in the new apartment - there was also mould growing on the windows and blinds.
“There was leftover residue in the fridges, no hot water to start with, and we didn’t use the shower as my friend found pubic hairs in the bath.
“Obviously, I want a refund, but I seriously want them to take a good look at how they’re running their company.
“It’s disgusting, especially for those families who can’t afford to go abroad. I know it’s a nice cheap holiday by the beach, but it’s vile.
“I will not be going back again, 100 per cent. When I was trying to get the refund, they were offering me 20 per cent off our next visit, but there’s no way I’m going to come back after I’ve just found that.”
Attempts were made to contact Pontins for a response.
