THE Ruthin Gaol building in Denbighshire will be one of several buildings opening their doors to the public this weekend, as part of a national programme of celebrations.
The Gaol is home to the North East Wales Archives service and the doors are being opened as part of the Open Doors celebration this September, which involves more than 200 sites, landmarks and hidden gems across Wales allowing access to the public.
The Open Doors Denbighshire programme has been running for many years, and several locations across the county, including Ruthin Gaol, are allowing people to come and see what is on offer.
People can join the team at the Gaol for a glimpse inside the home of the county’s most treasured archives on Sunday, 11 September between 11am and 3.30pm.

The event will include demonstrations from the Conservator Mark Allen and an exhibition of recently conserved archives.
People will be able to look around the archives part of the building.
Councillor Emrys Wynne, Cabinet Lead Member for Welsh Language, Culture and Heritage, said: “This is a great opportunity to go behind the scenes at the Archives where our treasured archives have been stored.
“Many people will already be familiar with the Archives service and the wide range of information that is available for those interested in the county’s history and heritage.
“The Open Doors programme is a great opportunity to explore some of the hidden gems and find out more about culture and heritage in our county.”
