A WOMAN from Rhyl has spoken of her fears about the potential damage that mice she has found in her property will ultimately cause.

Debbie McPhee, who lives on Ffynnongroew Road, has said on numerous occasions, she has seen mice “chewing through the walls and my telephone wires”.

A tenant of registered social landlord ClwydAlyn, Debbie’s attempts to resolve the issues through rat poision and hiring pest control company “Rentokil” have proved in vain.

She has also criticised ClwydAlyn for the lack of assistance she believes the company has offered her, saying: “it’s like they don’t care”.

Debbie, who has numerous health conditions including asthma, said: “I had it in the first lockdown, and I’ve got it again now. This particular episode, I’ve had for the last week.

“I see them quite a lot, it’s been keeping me up at night. They’re chewing through the walls and my telephone wires, and ClwydAlyn aren’t bothered.

“I’ve seen them, and I can hear them at night, clawing at my carpet.

“I’ve put poison down, and have had Rentokil, but the little boxes they put down aren’t working. ClwydAlyn won’t help; it’s like they don’t care. It’s not just me that’s got them.

“I just want it dealt with. If this building goes up in flames because they’re in the walls, they’re going to have a bigger problem.

“I was told that mice are common around here, but ClwydAlyn should have had this sorted ages ago.”

Debbie added that, having asked ClwydAlyn to rehouse her temporarily while the issue with mice is resolved, the organisation refused to do so.

ClwydAlyn said that this issue was reported in August and, within a week, had arranged for Rentokil to visit the property.

A company spokesperson added that Rentokil attended the property last week to arrange treatment, and will visit again this week to review the situation and make arrangements to close any holes created by mice.

ClwydAlyn said that Rentokil has also assured the resident and ClwydAlyn that Debbie is safe and if there were any serious concerns, it would have made the company aware.

The organisation say it is in regular contact with Debbie, and its housing officer also visited her earlier this week.

A spokesperson for ClwydAlyn Housing Association said: “We are aware of the concerns raised by the resident, and we appreciate that it’s an unpleasant experience to have mice in your home.

“Officers responded to the report promptly, working with partners to get the problem resolved as quickly and effectively as possible.

“Pest control treatments have already been implemented in the property and a second visit has been arranged this week to take more action if required and to close any holes in the property.”
