A former Bodelwyddan resident has released a book about the Kinmel Bay camp riots in 1919.

Robert James Bridge, who now lives in the south of the UK but still has relatives in Conwy, first thought of putting pen to paper when living in the area.

Soon, he penned Kinmel Revisited, a fictionalised version of the events that unfolded.

The cover of the book features St Margaret’s Church in Bodelwyddan, where four of the five Candian soldiers that died are buried.

“[Bodelwyddan is an] unassuming village today but back in 1919 it was on the front page of each and every tabloid newspaper," said Robert.

“Of course, the five graves with the Maple Leaf Emblem on them remain even though they are not well known.

“I knew one day I would write as I stood amongst the many war graves some years ago.”

The book was published by Pen It Publications and is available on Amazon, as well as at Hinton’s Bookshop in Conwy.
