A CHARITY classic car ride and afternoon tea event in Denbighshire last month raised £300 for a hospice in St Asaph.

The event, on July 30, saw classic car group “Classic Allsorts” lead a convoy of about 12 vintage vehicles riding through the county, before arriving at organiser Peter Hayes’ home for refreshments and entertainment.

This was in aid of St Kentigern Hospice, which provides care and support for patients with any life-limiting condition, as well as their families.

The group presented St Kentigern with a £300 cheque at the hospice yesterday (August 15).

‘It’s not easy, but it’s a rewarding job’ – a day in the life of St Kentigern Hospice

Peter, who drives an Austin A35, said: “We did a little run round, and then we had 34 people in our garden for afternoon tea! We had donations, a raffle, and a bit of live music, and raised £300, so we were quite pleased.

“We always start from Tweedmill (in St Asaph), then we did a little run down to Greenfield Valley in Holywell, and then came back a different route and ended up on our estate with about 12 cars parked on our drive!

“We had a couple of Rovers, a couple of Stags, two Morris 1000s, an Austin A35, three Triumphs; that’s why we call ourselves ‘Allsorts’ – because we’ve got all sorts!

“It was only an idea this year; we just wanted to do something different. The hospice is just down the road from us, so I thought we’d do something for them.

“It’s a lovely place, and they do struggle for funds. Ours wasn’t a great deal of money, but it’s better than nothing.”

“Classic Allsorts”, which has been running for nearly four years, is based in the village of Trefnant, but its 18 members come from across North Wales.
