A WOMAN made an unexpected discovery while she was taking the wallpaper off a wall of a house she bought in Rhyl last month.

Deb Moore was stripping the walls in a room on the top floor of the property, on Bedford Street, only to a find a striking black-and-white perspective mural underneath.

Deb does not live in the property, which is believed to have been built in 1896, but is planning to renovate the house before renting it out, and found the artwork on the wall yesterday (August 15).

She shared a photo of it on the “Rhyl Forum” Facebook page, hoping to find out more about the drawing’s origins, but has had no luck yet.

She said: “We were doing up the house and took the paper off all of the walls, ready to get the plasterers in, and saw that on the wall of the very top bedroom in the attic.

“I was blown away – I thought it was really good. I don’t know who’s done it, but that’s why I put it on that page, because I thought somebody might have some memories of seeing it. It’s a large mural, covering the whole wall.”

“I think it was probably a random teenager in their bedroom, but whoever has done it has clearly put the work in to it. It’s quite striking when you’re actually in the room – it’s a bit scary!

“I think they’ve wallpapered over it, then fitted the radiators, because the picture is actually painted to the floor. It must be quite an old painting.”

Asked if she had ever come across anything like that before, Deb added: “No; not when taking wallpaper off. I think the most you usually find is a scribble, but that was pretty different.

“You never know – there might be something else on the next floor.

“Someone said it might be Banksy on holiday!”
