ON FRIDAY morning (August 12), police officers in Denbighshire welcomed a special visitor when five-year-old Lydia, from the Prestatyn area, was presented with an important award.

In April, Lydia was shopping with her mum in Parc Prestatyn when she saw a man running away from TK Maxx with a large suitcase.

She immediately urged her mum to call North Wales Police (NWP).

Officers swiftly attended and managed to catch up with the offender.

He was arrested and pleaded guilty to shoplifting.

On Friday, Lydia was presented with a certificate for her outstanding courage in identifying a shoplifter, and helping police officers to find him.

The team also gave Lydia a Lego set with her own police car, and afterwards, she got to see one of the police’s latest vehicles, with a special area where “the naughty people sit”.
