A GROUP of "travellers" were asked to leave a water park in Rhyl after entering the premises without paying.

On Thursday, police were called to the scene at SC2, on West Parade, with customers asked to evacuate the pool, which the travellers had entered, until the group agreed to leave.

Denbighshire Leisure, the company responsible for SC2, apologised to customers for the disruption, and thanked them for their patience.

Jamie Groves, managing director of Denbighshire Leisure Ltd, said: “We would like to apologise to our customers at SC2 today, whose enjoyment was briefly disturbed by the behaviour of a disruptive group of travellers who bypassed our staff and entered the pool without paying.

“We treat everyone equally, regardless of background or religion, and expect a level of behaviour from all of our customers. We will not tolerate stealing or abusive and aggressive behaviour.

“The safety of our staff and customers is paramount and we want to make it clear that you cannot use the waterpark without paying.

“The police were called, and we evacuated the pool for a few minutes until the group agreed to leave.”

Travellers were also seen in Rhyl last week, when as many as 11 vehicles were parked on the promenade by East Parade.

It was the second time in as many weeks that vehicles had parked there.

Mr Groves added: “As always, our staff were excellent and were commended by the police for their professional handling of the situation.

“We would like to thank the team at SC2, and also our customers for their patience and understanding, whilst this disappointing incident was resolved.

“Having had a tough few years following the pandemic, the last thing we wanted to do was to close our attraction and we would like to thank our customers for their patience while we sorted out the situation.

“Let's not let this one incident tarnish a fantastic week at SC2, with incredible weather, great vibes and we'll see you tomorrow to enjoy the warm weather on the Splash Pad.”

A North Wales Police spokesperson said: "We received a call at 3.36pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday) from staff at SC2 on West Parade, Rhyl, reporting a family that were using the outside pool facilities without paying.

"Officers attended, and the family left without incident."

On numerous occasions last summer, motorhomes were also found to be parked illegally near the Eisteddfod Standing Stones in Rhyl.
