A young swimming sensation from Denbighshire secured four gold medals and a silver at a five-day national event in Swansea.
Alex Young, who attends Prestatyn High School, took part in his 15-year-old age category at the National Pool in Swansea, which hosted the Swim Wales Summer Open.
Young Alex had learnt to swim at Rhyl Pool, and represented Rhyl Dolphins for six years before before joining Nofio Clwyd last year, a Performance Centre club in Connah’s Quay.
Mr Young came away with gold medals in the 200m Individual Medley, 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke and the 100m Freestyle, with a silver medal in the 50m Butterfly, all while achieving personal bests.
The boy’s father Chris said: “All swims over the five days resulted in personal bests, which was some achievement after having a massively interrupted season due to two bouts of COVID, a broken finger and a broken bone in his wrist, meaning he went to the Open undercooked!”
Training for the new season begins in a few weeks’ time, where Alex will also join up with the Welsh Performance Squad.
Father Chris added that he wished “to encourage youngsters to join their local clubs and have the ambition, like Alex, to represent their country in international events”.
