A WOMAN Rhyl has raised £1,404 for a charity "very close to her heart" after taking on the challenge of walking on broken glass.

Lisa Williams and a group of men and women faced the challenge on July 16 at JJ’s Studios for the miscarriage charity “Tommy’s”.

Tommy’s is dedicated to finding causes and treatments to save babies’ lives.

Lisa herself has three “angel babies” - a term given to an infant who dies during pregnancy or soon after birth.

Each year, Lisa raises awareness for miscarriages, to help break the silence on the subject. Previously, she has done fundraiser charity nights, sponsored walks and gift boxes.

Miscarriage can have a psychological effect, often on both parents, which can lead to mental health, so Lisa hopes that her words can help remove the “taboo” surrounding it.

She wanted to do something different for this year’s charity fundraising, as the last two years have been online due to lockdown restrictions, and she wanted to bring people together to empower themselves as well as give back.

The glass walk took place six years to the day since Lisa’s first miscarriage in 2016.

She said: “The event was very emotional; lots of emotions came to the surface for many. There were feelings of pride, fear, and nervousness during the day.

“I was so honoured to be able to create this magical experience for the attendees.”

The event started with a guided breathing exercise, held by John Young, who runs Logi Firewalking.

The attendees were given time to reflect and be present in the moment, doing tasks to prepare their mindset for the glass walking.

Cllr Michelle Walker (Rhyl Trellewelyn ward) said as she was walking over the glass for the third time: “It’s like all our broken pieces of our past are underneath us and we have come through this onto the other side”.

Other attendees said it made them feel humble, inspirational, and proud.

John, who ran the glass walk said: “The day was inspirational; each and everyone of the attendees trusted themselves. I was moved and inspired by them all.”

The event was sponsored by Amethyst soul, Blue Turtle and TLC Property Lettings.

Lisa’s journey through several miscarriages has led her on a journey of personal growth, and she has a community group helping others on their journey, too, at: www.facebook.com/groups/visionboardqueen.
