A BEAUTY salon in Abergele has scooped the accolade of being the first accredited mindful salon in Wales, and one of the first in the UK.

Special Guest Beauty received this after completing training from the first official CPD Certified Mindfulness Course for salons and other small businesses.

The salon undertook the online training in May, before gaining its official badge and accreditation at the end of June.

The mindfulness course is called “The M.I.N.D.F.U.L Salon Source Code”, and covers being more mindful within the work environment, mindset exercises, how to be mindful as a business, what to focus on, and why limiting beliefs cause disempowering behaviours, and how to shift this.

The salon undertook the training through The Salon Jedi Academy.

Salon Jedi founder, Caroline Sanderson, said: “It’s fantastic that Special Guest Beauty has completed this course to focus on mindfulness at a time when businesses can really use the tools within this course to not just survive but thrive after the pandemic.

“I have been practising and teaching mindfulness since 2011 and can directly credit this technique with the incredible success my salon has experienced – it helps any salon become calm, focused and confident thanks to their training.

“There has never been a time that mindfulness is more needed.”

Kerry Guest, owner of Special Guest Beauty, credits mindfulness with helping to grow the business despite the adversity of repeated closures due to COVID-19, and with keeping the salon a busy, positive place.

Kerry said: “Running and sustaining a business through the pandemic has been so challenging.

“But doing this mindset work has allowed me to manage my emotions, stay focused on the positive aspects of the business, be responsive, not reactive, but most importantly, share the knowledge I’ve gained with my clients to help them through these difficult times, as well.

“I regularly talk to my clients about mindful techniques, such as meditation to help them cope with stress and anxiety.

“I love sharing with them how doing this work and this course has helped me in so many ways and how it can also help them.”

Special Guest Beauty has been trading since 2013, offering a range of beauty treatments and holistic therapies.

The salon’s mission is to help clients look and feel their best, as well as improving their wellbeing and mindset.

The salon now runs regular mindful events in a bid to help educate clients and attendees of the benefits of mindfulness, improving their own mindset and being able to keep a more positive outlook even when life throws curveballs and challenges.
