RESIDENTS in parts of West Rhyl have received new bins as part of a wider programme of changes being introduced to waste and recycling services in the county next year.
Teams from Denbighshire Council’s Waste & Recycling department have delivered brand new, larger black bins to more than 900 properties across 26 streets, as part of a pilot project.
Some properties have also received brand new blue bins.
Both of these bins are microchipped, which allows the Council to identify bins belonging to individual properties, so that the Council can improve its communications in the future.
The Council often needs to contact the users of the bin to provide support and advice around where to store their bins, and what waste goes in each bin.
Being able to locate the correct people to talk to straight away saves valuable time and decreases the risk of waste escaping into the environment, or good recycling becoming contaminated.
The Council also arranged a one- off free bulky waste collection for those streets where bin deliveries took place and many residents took the opportunity to dispose of waste, with vans full of items being taken away.
Councillor Barry Mellor, Cabinet Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “I would like to thank the teams for their dedication and commitment to getting these bins delivered.
“This has been a mammoth task and we needed to keep these deliveries to a tight schedule. Initial feedback from residents has been extremely positive in the main and we look forward to working with them over the coming months to make this new scheme a great success for their community.

“Having a microchip in the bin means that if it goes missing or is moved, the Council is able to reunite the bin with the correct property.
“It will be better for security purposes, but also will help our collective efforts to improve our recycling performance and keep the area looking as clean and tidy as possible for the whole community.
The Council will also have a team working in West Rhyl to identify those properties who may not be recycling as much as they could. The team will be there to talk to residents and provide advice, information and support on what can and cannot be recycled.
