A Sensory Garden has been opened at Ysgol Emmanuel in Rhyl, as part of a ‘Community Benefits’ scheme.
The garden was created as a joint project between NWPS Construction's ‘Community Benefits’ scheme and Matt Stowe, a landscape gardener for Cartrefi Conwy, who are the landlords of the building project.
Other local suppliers also donated materials to help the project to be completed, including B&Q, who donated all the plants, and the Design Technology department of Rhyl High School, who kindly made and donated the sign for the garden.
The garden was officially opened by Mayor of Rhyl Diane King in a ceremony last week, and will be used as a quiet area for pupils with additional learning needs who need sensory breaks and a place to regulate.
Other businesses to supply materials and labour included Thorncliffe Building Supplies (Dyserth), Travis Perkins Builders Merchants (Denbigh), Roger Jones Builders Merchants (Rhyl), Huws Gray Builders Merchants (Rhuddlan), GMC Concrete (Kinmel Bay) and M N Contractors (Mold).
Headteacher Rona Jones said “The garden is more than we had even dreamed and we are so grateful to everyone who made this a reality.
“Thank you to Madam Mayor Diane King and her consort Peter Prendergast for opening the garden for us.
“Pupils have already started to enjoy the garden and will help us to maintain it.”
