A WOMAN who turned 70 in March marked the occasion by taking on a daring challenge to raise hundreds of pounds for the St Asaph-based hospice she volunteers for.
Violet Fullagar celebrated the milestone on March 12, while March 19 would also have been her father’s 100th birthday.
Violet, who lives in Ruthin having moved to North Wales from Kent 10 years ago, took on a “wing walk” for St Kentigern Hospice, which provides care and support for patients with a life-limiting condition and their families.
Since shortly before Christmas, Violet has been volunteering at the hospice’s Ruthin shop for three mornings a week.
At Headcorn Aerodrome, Kent in May, Violet faced the wing walk, where participants are either strapped into a seat on the exterior of a plane, or able to move along the plane’s wings.

This was delayed from the initial date of March 31 due to weather conditions.
She enjoyed it so much that she’s now dreaming of an abseiling challenge on the Liver Building in Liverpool for her 75th birthday in 2027.
She said: “It was brilliant. I really enjoyed it – it was such a strange experience.
“I wasn’t frightened, it wasn’t as windy as I thought and, thank goodness, it wasn’t raining.
“It was a wonderful experience - it was as frightening as getting out of bed in the morning!
“It was £170 raised on the internet, and I know there’s about £70 that people have given me that I’ve put into a tin. It’ll come to a few hundred (pounds), anyway.
“I drove from here (Ruthin) down to Headcorn with my partner in the morning, did the wing walk, had lunch, then drove back in the same day!
“It was so exhilarating. I’m petrified of heights and flying - if I’m not in control, I’m not very good.
“But I felt so confident that, hopefully now, for my 75th, I want to do abseiling. I’m thinking about the Liver Building at the moment.
“I’ve got arthritis in my hip at the moment, but by then, I might have a new hip!”
