IF YOU'RE a Denbighshire parent yet to see your child’s eyes widen at the sight of an ice cream van yet, you could do worse than buy tasty frozen delights from The Dragon Dairy.
Not only because they boast such a diverse range of delicious snacks, but also because of their special rule.
“We have a rule that, if any child visits our ice cream van, and it’s their first ever ice cream van experience, they get their ice cream on the house,” said Jimmy Garland, who runs the business which started in 2019.
That’s not the only show of generosity The Dragon Dairy makes, either - every year, it offers free ice creams to nursing homes in the region, and also provides every child, teacher and staff member at Ysgol Hiraddug, Rhyl with a free ice cream.
It’s a lovely touch from Jimmy who, in many ways, has picked up the baton from older generations in his family.
He added: “We love giving back to the community that supports us. We are a local family business, born and bred in Rhyl.
“My parents had an ice cream business in the ‘70s - two shops; one in Towyn, and the other in Prestatyn.
“I felt like I was returning to my roots by starting an ice cream business adventure!”
Priding itself on not just being “a run of the mill ice cream van”, Jimmy’s selection of sweet treats has everything, from brownies and Belgian waffles, to fudge cake and Fizzy Mix.

Whether you fancy indulging your sweet tooth in an old favourite or a guilty pleasure, or broadening your palette, there’s so much more to The Dragon Dairy than solely ice creams.
Jimmy added: “We sell Jersey Dairy soft ice cream, palm oil-free.
“We’re not just a run of the mill ice cream van. We offer dessert trays topped with your favourite chocolate bar or sweets, our most popular being Kinder Bueno or Fizzy mix, warm Belgian waffles, Two Bite brownies, or hot chocolate fudge cake.
“Our latest offerings are our new chocolate-dipped Whippy cones. We take our delicious dairy ice cream, and dip them in melted chocolate (milk, blue crunch or ruby) which sets upon contact, and creates a chocolate shell coat.
“We like to come up with unique dessert creations, using the best products we can source.”
