A CHARITY in Rhyl is hosting a Beatles-inspired event to celebrate 60 years since the Beatles played in the very same shop.
Sense, a Rhyl High Street charity who cater for those living with deafblind and complex disabilities, are located on the old Rhyl Regent Dansette site which played host to the first Beatles gig in Wales, on July 14, 1962.
To celebrate the anniversary, organisers have secured the services of Beatles tribute band The Cavernites, who have roots in Rhyl, to play at the event on Saturday, July 16.
One of the most notable Fab Four tribute acts, the band will perform in a marquee outside the Sense store.
The original plan had been to have the celebration coincide with International Busking Day, which also falls on July 16, but plans were forced to be altered due to permit and insurance problems encountered by organisers.
The event will run from 12pm-5pm, with all money raised going to the disability charity.
A Sense spokesman said: “We'll be dressed in 60s gear and selling Beatles merchandise – we’ve got loads of merchandise for sale, we’re going to have fun and games and competitions.
“It should be a good day for everyone.”
