NEW Mayor of Prestatyn and Meliden Councillor Tina Jones MBE has said she is “honoured” to serve in her new role, as the Mayor took part in a walking festival in the region.
Ms Jones had served on the Town Council for ten years, five of which were also spent on Denbighshire County Council, having run a business in the town for almost 50 years.
“It is an honour to be elected this year's Mayor of Prestatyn and Meliden.
“I have been a resident of Prestatyn all my life – I am encouraged to see that Prestatyn is moving in such a positive direction, and I am looking forward to meeting as many residents as possible during my year in office.

“I am also looking forward to working with my friend and colleague Councillor Bob Murray duly elected as my Deputy, who works tirelessly for the charities he supports.”
The Mayor has chosen Breast Cancer Awareness as her designated charity for her year in office, and one of her first duties in her new role was opening the 17th annual Prestatyn & Clwydian Range Walking Festival, which offered 25 walks for all ages and abilities.
The 2020 and 2021 events had to be cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.
It is also the tenth anniversary of the 870-mile-long Wales Coast Path with several walks on sections of the path in Denbighshire.
The Mayor thanked everyone involved in organising one of the best walking festivals in Wales, and hoped they would enjoy the benefits of the beautiful landscape and coast of Denbighshire.
