DENBIGHSHIRE County Council is to be supporting an awareness week for dementia.
The Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Action Week takes place between May 16 and 22 and aims to encourage people to “act on dementia”, with this year’s campaign focusing on diagnosis.
Since February 2020, the council has been recognised for working towards becoming a dementia-friendly council.
The council’s work to raise awareness and provide support includes delivery of “Dementia Friends” information sessions for staff and councillors and a staff engagement network.

Denbighshire libraries offer a books on prescription service and there is a reduction in council tax for people living with dementia, with help with wheelie bins also provided.
A number of events will be taking place during Dementia Action Week including the launch of a new Dementia-Friendly Jigsaw Library.
The jigsaws are available to borrow with a membership card from libraries across Denbighshire and are designed for adults.
The aim is to encourage conversation and reminiscence, and to stimulate the brain.
A launch will take place at St Asaph Library on Friday, May 20 at 2pm with members of the public welcome to attend.
There will be some virtual reality activities and a reminiscence bike in our Dolwen Care Home.
The council’s Countryside Service will be holding events as part of the “Our Nature for Health” programme, which supports improved physical and mental wellbeing from spending time in nature.
Events including exercise sessions and walks will be taking place in Meliden, Rhuddlan, Denbigh and Llangollen.
Other events are taking place across the county with a number of organisations taking part and these can be found on the council’s website.
Ann Lloyd, the council’s interim head of service for community support services, said: “We are working hard to ensure the council is an organisation that supports those living with dementia.
“As part of this work, we are supporting Dementia Action Week and I would encourage residents to visit our website to see what events are happening in the county.
“It is vital we work to deliver positive outcomes for those living with dementia and make life easier and more comfortable for them and for those who care for people with dementia.
“Helping people to be more resilient and independent is a priority for the council.”
