A PROMINENT fundraiser is to spend a night sleeping on Rhyl’s High Street for charity this weekend.

Richard Kendrick, who helps raise funds for the Royal British Legion (RBL), is to sleep rough alone on Saturday, April 30, from 6pm until the following morning.

This is part of the “Great Tommy Sleep Out”, where participants brave the cold for one night in support the approximately 6,000 military veterans living on the streets in the UK.

Richard, who is also a RBL Poppy Appeal organiser, said: “I want to highlight that we still have homeless veterans and lots of families in temporary accommodation.

“I think people have forgotten them. So many people are in temporary accommodation at the moment, with more families each day being evicted.

“Hopefully, they won’t have to sleep on the streets. More help is needed, with rents and all utilities going up, like food and petrol prices. It’s going to be really hard for many people.

“I’ll have a bucket with me if anyone wants to donate cash.”

More than 11,500 people have already signed up to take part in the “Great Tommy Sleep Out”, with all proceeds going directly to helping Royal British Legion Industries support veterans.

Richard has also set up an online GoFundMe page for the event, which people can donate to by visiting: www.gofundme.com/f/v6w3q6-supporting-our-homeless-veterans.
