DŴR Cymru / Welsh Water has removed signage mistakenly informing residents that one of Rhyl’s busiest roads would be a one-way street for part of the forthcoming Easter weekend.

Craig Harker, of the Les Harker’s Amusements arcade, said that on Friday (April 8), he noticed two Dŵr Cymru signs informing people that West Parade, located near Rhyl’s seafront, would be one-way between Thursday, April 14 and Saturday, April 16.

Mr Harker, whose arcade is also based on West Parade, told the Journal he was confused by the decision to take this action on what he said will be “one of the busiest weekends of the year”.

He said: “I came down to work this morning (Friday, April 8) to find two one-way signs on the road by the new development on West Parade.

“I’d like to know who has decided to close one side of West Parade for one of the busiest weekends of the year.

“I just find it so stupid that someone could make it a one-way road for one of the busiest weekends of the year.

“If it’s not an emergency, surely it could have been done a week or two earlier or later.

“If you were sat in a car for 20 minutes to go one way, and then come back the other way, I just think it leaves a bad taste.

“It’s right by the underground car park, so most people are going to have go that way to get to the car park anyway, and then they might have to queue back again to come out again afterwards.

“While the town’s going to be so busy during that weekend, what a bad time to put traffic lights there.”

As well as Mr Harker’s arcade, other attractions on West Parade include the Palace Fun Centre, the SC2 water park, and Mr B’s Amusements.

There is a roadworks embargo for the Easter holidays; the only exception being emergency works.

Dŵr Cymru have now corrected the mistake, with the work, which involves disconnecting water supplies to demolished properties on the road, actually beginning on April 27.

A Dŵr Cymru spokesperson said: “We need to undertake essential work to disconnect the water supplies to demolished properties on West Parade.

“We, by mistake, applied to do the work this coming weekend; however, this has now been changed and the work will start on April 27.

“The work should be completed within two to three days.”
