THE mayor of Prestatyn and Meliden, Councillor Sharon Frobisher, spent yesterday afternoon and early evening (March 22) on the Bastion Road field helping to plant trees for The Queen’s Canopy in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The mayor officially unveiled the specially prepared plaque to commemorate the planting, together with pupils from Ysgol Clawdd Offa and Ysgol Penmorfa primary schools, and got to plant the last tree, as well.

About 210 trees, including hazel, blackthorn and oak, were planted by schoolchildren, environmental groups, individuals and youth groups, with planters ranging from babies to senior citizens.

A spokesperson for the mayor said: “Well done and thanks to all the tree planters throughout the day, and an even bigger thank you to Debbie Hughes from Prestatyn Town Council and Claudia Smith from Denbighshire County Council Countryside Services.

“They had organised the event and were there all day, digging the holes and explaining how to plant and secure the saplings.”
