JOURNAL readers have been sharing their experiences of Storm Eunice today (February 18) as heavy winds continue to cause disruption across North Wales and the UK.

An amber weather warning was put in place for North Wales earlier this week for today’s storm, with Rhyl RNLI recording gusts of 64.9mph and sustained speeds of 54mph this afternoon.

Paula Hough shared this footage taken on Prestatyn’s seafront near the Nova car park just after about 11.30am:

Rob Lee shared the picture below, which was taken from his windfarm boat, Mareel Onyx, which was sheltering in Rhyl’s outer harbour at about 12.20pm:

Fortunately, Rob added: “It hasn’t affected us as we were well-sheltered, but it was only a 30ft spring tide.

“If it had have been a 33ft spring tide, the effects of this storm would have been catastrophic to say the least.”

Rob shared the video below later in the afternoon:

Mark McCoy posted on the "Prestatyn Connect" Facebook group a road through Bryniau, Dyserth which had been blocked by a tree during the storm:

Nicola Davenport shared the effects that the winds had on the trampoline in her garden:

Debby Hywel-Jones sent in more windy footage from by Rhyl Pavilion theatre, adding: “I managed 16 seconds before I had to get back into my car.

“I couldn't even see what I was filming until I watched it myself!”

Another reader wrote: “Part of my chimney just came down... just missed my car, so I've moved it and nearly got blown away.”

Meanwhile, a number of Denbighshire County Council services have changed their arrangements due to the extremely strong winds forecast.

All schools and libraries are closed, while numerous bus services in the area have also been suspended.

Advice from Rhyl RNLI earlier today said: “Avoid the prom and coastal areas when you can.

“Check weather, tide and swell forecasts before you consider heading to the coast, and avoid taking unnecessary risks by staying well back from stormy seas and breaking waves.”
