TRIBUTES have been paid to a Vale of Clwyd athlete who has sadly passed away.
Members of Prestatyn Running Club were saddened to hear of the death of the club’s oldest member, 93-year-old Eddie Naisby from Clocaenog.
Club spokesman Gareth Hughes said Eddie, who lost his wife Audrey last year, was an inspiration to fellow runners and a committed club member, always proud to wear the club’s red vest.
Eddie, who didn’t take up running until after he turned 50, was still competing until about two years ago.
“He picked up numerous trophies in various age-groups and his performances were remarkable, but he was always modest and self-effacing,” said Gareth.
“More than that, he was always among the first to volunteer to help at events organised by the club and, above all, was a true gent.”
