THE 21ST series of I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! returned to historic Gwrych Castle last night.
French footballer star David Ginola, Paralympic gold champion Kadeena Cox, former Strictly Come Dancing judge Dame Arlene Phillips and diver Matty Lee were the first contestants to make their debut on the show, meeting for the first time at a stately home.
Former BBC Breakfast host Louise Minchin, music producer Naughty Boy, soap actor Danny Miller and radio DJ Snoochie Shy met at a separate property.
Both groups were then picked up by helicopters which flew in formation off the coast, taking them to their first challenge.
Louise, Naughty Boy, Snoochie and Danny were first to compete in a challenge.
They were tasked to walk a plank hundreds of feet in the air over the Alexandra Quarry, near Penyffridd on the outskirts of Caernarfon.
Louise and DJ Snoochie Shy were victorious and became the first members of the red team.
Danny Miller and Naughty Boy - who both dropped, and were left swinging in the air from their harnesses after losing the challenge, formed the yellow team.
As winners, Louise and Snoochie got to choose two celebrities from the other group to join them.
Louise and Snoochie decided on Matty and Kadeena.
Louise said: “We’re going with Matty Lee and Kadeena Cox because you cannot go against gold medalists in our opinion.”
Ant told the yellow team that meant they’d have David Ginola and Arlene Phillips join them. Football fan Danny was happy about that “David Ginola, I absolutely love him, I can’t wait to meet him.”
The next group were then tasked to unlock a flare box by finding a small spanner in a box filled with snakes.
The celebrities had to work in pairs with choreographer Dame Arlene Phillips and former footballer David Ginola put together, and Olympic diver Matty Lee and Paralympic gold champion Kadeena Cox pairing up.
Matty Lee and Paralympic gold champion Kadeena Cox were successful in the challenge.
The campmates then made their way to Gwrych Castle where broadcaster Richard Madeley and singer Frankie Bridge made their debut.
They were chosen as the first celebrities to complete in the trial - “turrets of terror” - following a public vote, which involved them navigating through a tower to win the key of the castle.
Frankie - who was chosen to join the red team - won.
The red team made their way to the main castle camp while the yellow team sloped off to spend their first night in 'Castle Clink' and were given basic rations.
Naughty Boy confessed that he had smuggled some spices into the camp.
He explained in the Telegraph: "Before I left, I grinded some spices that could make rice and beans actually taste a bit nice so what I did, I put it in my sock. There's cumin seeds, cloves, turmeric, coriander seeds. If you could smell this. Wow. And black peppercorns."
Sadly the spices were "confiscated".
The public have voted for Emmerdale star Danny to face the second trial on Monday’s episode of I’m A Celebrity.
He will represent the losing yellow team in the 'castles dreaded diner' and will face a member of the winning red team during the challenge.
