WHETHER it’s an ice-cold beer or a toasty coffee, a Sunday roast or a vegan breakfast, there’s something on the menu for everyone at Harrisons Bistro & Bar in Rhyl, which has gone down a treat with its customers since its June opening.
It is the latest exciting business venture for Michelle Mellor, who has previously worked for the hotel and restaurant company Whitbread and ran Brewers Fayre's Afon Conwy on Glan Conwy Corner.
Michelle, who now owns Micky's Professional Catering Company, has been running Harrisons with the help of her daughters, Destiney-Page and Paisley-Jade.
She said: “We are open seven days a week, serving breakfasts and main meals from our extensive menu.
“Our real butchers’ sausages have proved a real hit with customers; the feedback has been phenomenal. Our licensed bar and fresh coffee have both been welcomed by guests, too.
“Since opening, we have launched our Friday night 'Sizzler Night' (two mains and two sides for £30), and our 'Mega Sunday Roasts' have proved that successful that we have sold out in the last five weeks."
With the help of some of her team of nine, which is almost double the size she expected when first opening Harrisons, Michelle also provides catering for external events such as business lunches and weddings.
She described catering at a Rhyl wedding in July as one of her proudest moments after it ‘had been cancelled twice due to COVID and other restrictions’, and believes such events are a perfect opportunity to showcase her business further afield.
Michelle added: “I took a booking for a November wedding yesterday – they met here (at the site where Harrisons is now based) apparently, years ago, so she said it was really important that they came in and had their wedding here!
“We still do external food for businesses and things like that – lunches, corporate events; they’ve been doing fantastic, and the afternoon teas are doing really well, as well.”
Another notable achievement for Michelle was the recent installation of a ramp to make Harrisons more accessible to those with disabilities.
She said: “One lady couldn’t come in because she has a motorised scooter - she has been in twice already (since the ramp installation)!
“One of the ladies messaged and thanked me – she said: ‘We can come in now and have a meal, I can’t believe it!’ It’s opened the door for them, definitely.”
