VOLUNTEERS from environmental agencies collected more than 30 bags of litter on Rhyl beach
Welsh Water organised the litter picking event with Keep Wales Tidy, which was also attended by staff from Natural Resources Wales, National Rivers Trust and Denbighshire County Council during the litter picking event last month.
They used Rhyl Pavilion and SC2 as litter picking hubs and the council provided equipment including litter pickers, hi-vis vests, rubbish bags and hoops.
Volunteers worked their way along the beach front area, which was chosen by Welsh Water as part of its Me and My Community Week. Nearby projects including Water Resilient Communities and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources are being carried out in the Rhyl area.
Keep Wales Tidy aims to tackle the issue of litter head on, making it easier than ever to borrow equipment and take positive action to improve the community.
Claire Roberts, Welsh Water head of community engagement, said: "Being a responsible business is important to us and this week has been full of events to support our local communities, with our colleagues continuing to go the extra mile to help to make a difference. A huge thank you for the support from Keep Wales Tidy in arranging this event to build on our long standing partnership.
"Given our commitment to protecting the environment, and the significant focus of community activity in Rhyl over the past year, it seems fitting that this event is taking place at Rhyl beach.”
Keep Wales Tidy is working with all local authorities across Wales and this is their biggest ever initiative to eradicate litter and waste. It aims to tackle the issue of litter head on, making it easier than ever to borrow equipment and take positive action to improve the community.
Gareth Jones, Keep Wales Tidy project officer for Denbighshire, said: "It's great to have so many different organisations working in partnership together to clean up the environment and raise awareness. It's only through collaborative working such as this event organised by Welsh Water that we will be able to deal with the issue of litter and waste.
"Rhyl Beach is such a beautiful location I'm proud to be a part of an event that makes it even more attractive for everyone that uses it."
