THE music of the Second World War will ring out across Rhyl town centre ahead of VJ Day.

Singers including John Overton and Goodnight Sweethearts will perform '40s songs in traditional costume on Rhyl High Street on Saturday, August 14.

The event has been organised by Royal British Legion (RBL) fundraiser Richard Kendrick to gather much-needed donations for the veterans’ charity.

Bear, a six-foot teddy bear in army uniform, will also be on hand to meet and greet families.

“It is something different that will bring a bit of fun and laughter to the high street,” said Mr Kendrick, who organises the Poppy Appeal for the RBL Rhyl branch.

“We’re hoping to attract lots of people to the town if the weather is good, and it will benefit the town by bringing extra footfall.

“We can’t do much because of Covid and we have to abide by guidelines of masks and hand lotions, but it will be good for people to see that we are still here raising funds.”

VJ Day, the abbreviation of Victory over Japan Day, commemorates the date that Japan ceased fighting in the Second World War, and takes place on Sunday, August 15.
