Conwy County Borough Council is appealing to residents to help them in their bid to make the town the UK City of Culture 2025.
An expression of interest has already been submitted under the name ‘Conwy 2025’, which will pioneer a community-driven approach tailored to what its people are passionate about.
A spokesperson from Conwy Council said: “Conwy 2025 need you to help play a part in driving the bid. They want to hear from you to help plan playful, adventurous and accessible events. Give your insight on the special qualities, challenges and local creative talent where you live.
“Core to Conwy 2025 is the aspiration to build on Conwy’s Culture Strategy vision for a representative and resilient network to support cultural life up to and beyond 2025.
“Conwy 2025 will bring strong and co-ordinated leadership whilst empowering communities to direct programming at the ground routes of their towns and villages.
“Conwy 2025 will ensure representation from community leaders, creatives, community arts organisations, local business, transport, and, crucially, local residents across its cultural landscape, developing projects that reflect local people, passion and priorities.”
A great number of influential partners have back the plans, and are helping shape the bid and integrating opportunities and ideas to further develop Conwy 2025.
Stephen Davies, chief executive of Penderyn Distillery, recently said: “Penderyn would stand by Conwy County Borough Council as partners with the people, organisations and businesses working to create exceptional cultural events and activities throughout 2025."
Conwy County Borough Council’s leader, Charlie McCoubrey, added: “Conwy 2025 will create a spark within our communities which will lead to economic growth, wellbeing and connection.”
Conwy 2025 will be developing lots of volunteering opportunities, and you can show your interest in getting involved and join the mailing list to be kept up to date with the latest developments by visiting www.conwy2025.co.uk/back-our-bid.
You can also show your support for Conwy 2025 as the UK City of Culture by the hashtag #Conwy2025 and tagging @Conwy2025 on your social media posts.
