IF YOU live on Anglesey you may have spotted Vernon Kay out running as he prepares to enter I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!
Vernon has been having 'the best time’ whilst isolating in a farm house on the island ahead of the show. The television presenter, radio DJ and former model has been thoroughly enjoying the beauty of North Wales and the buzz of RAF aircraft in the sky, but this is not his first time to the area.
Speaking to reporter Suzanne Kendrick, he said: “I am having the best time on Anglesey! It is brilliant.
“We as a family growing up always spent a lot of time in this part of the country because my auntie and uncle live in Llandudno, half way up the Great Orme, so I have always been in this part of the county.
“Where I am in the farm house it is not too dissimilar to where I grew up on the moors. Lots of open space, lots of fields, lots of sheep and cows, animals, muddy puddles.
“I have been running a lot which has been pretty exhilarating as the scenery up here is beautiful. I love it, it is gorgeous.
“We have got the RAF aeroplanes flying over pretty much every day. Not today [Wednesday, November 11] as it is blowing a bloody ‘huli’ but I always… I love anything like that.
“They fly really low over the hills and the mountains, yes anything like that I am all for.”
Vernon also revealed his cousin Carol lives just near Gwrych Castle in Abergele, which is the location for the 20th series this year.
“Carol and her husband yeh live in Abergele!” Vernon said.
“Believe it or not, Carol’s husband is the local doctor in Abergele - it is hilarious.
“I spoke to my cousin Carol. Before I came up, I went to visit, socially distanced of course, my auntie and uncle.
“There is no point coming all this way and driving past. They waved from the doorstep and I stood at the end of the driveway.”
Talking about the show moving from Australia to North Wales, Vernon said: “My initial reaction was like anyone else, that it wasn’t going to be in the sunshine in Australia but when you think about it and strip it down to the bare essentials of the show, it is not like Ant and Dec are presenting ‘Wish You Were Here’ from Australia. You don’t seen anything of Australia really do you? You only see camp mates by the fire and I am sure they [ITV] have done their best to replicate that kind of environment in the castle.
“I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love it up here being in isolation in Anglesey because I think sometimes we forget how beautiful our country is and the amazing views, the countryside and what we have.
"I think sometimes we forget to take advantage of it.”
With a tv career spanning over 20 years, Vernon said he has always been open to the public and the one thing he is quite honest about is his love of food.
“I like eating and I like eating a lot because ever since I hit puberty, I’ve been trying to build myself up so I am always consuming an outrageous amount of calories,” he said.
“It never seem to bloody work.
“I have always got a full tummy. I’ve never go kinda of peckish, so that is the one thing I’m worried about [going into the castle].”
Vernon also admitted he hates confined spaces and especially water.
He added: “I hate the thought of drowning, that kind of reoccurring bad dream / nightmare of mine.”
ITV's I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! Starts at 9pm on Sunday, November 15.
