A KINMEL Bay 21 year old has won a UK Masters archery title, beating some of the top archers in the UK.
Rhys Harper from Kinmel Bay and member of Gronant Bowmen archery club, won the UK Masters title hosted by the sports governing body, Archery GB at Lillishall the National Sports Centre last Sunday, October 4. Rhys shoots a compound bow and is sponsored by Merlin Archery. He is currently studying mechanical engineering at Lancaster University.
During the morning all the competitors took part in a 72 arrow ranking event. A knock out round followed in the afternoon. Each round consists of 15 arrows with a maximum score of 150. Rhys won his final against a GB team member in a thrilling final 146 to 145.
Rhys was a pupil of Ysgol Y Castell before starting at Lancaster University. He spent hours during the summer practicing on Ysgol y Castell field.
