A HOME Bargains is set to be built in Prestatyn on a site used as a market.
The site, on land at Gas Works Lane, is used as an open market held Tuesday, Friday and Sunday with car boot sales held each Thursday.
The market is used all year round but its claimed its 'popularity has declined over the latter years'.
Plans for the retail store, which will have a garden centre and car parking, have been lodged to Denbighshire County Council by Prescot Business Park Limited.
More than 70 jobs will be created.
A Design and Access statement, prepared for Prescot Business Park Limited, states: "The proposed development will deliver a number of significant benefits to the local economy and residents of Prestatyn.
"The development will result in a new retailer and a significant investment in Prestatyn by a proposed business; Creation of new jobs available for local people; Further job creation through construction, maintenance and security; Enhancement of retail choice and qualitative retail offer; Promotion of green travel and re-use of previously developed site."
The proposed unit is set to have 130 parking spaces including six per cent for oversized disabled parking, circa four per cent for parent and child and staff parking.
The statement adds: "Cycle use will be promoted to staff and customers through provision of cycle parking, however due to the scale of some of items retailed; cycle use for customers may not be feasible."
Internally the store will provide 2833 sq m of floorspace incorporating sales/display areas, storage facilities and staff areas.
There is currently a Home Bargains on High Street, Prestatyn.
