Bruton Park Woodland in Rhyl has secured the enhanced status.
A community event to mark the decision was held on Wednesday, July 24. Little ones enjoyed bird box building, circus skills, counting butterflies, decorating biscuits, pond dipping, crafts and other activities.
Councillor Jeanette Chamberlain-Jones, Rhyl South ward, said: "I have campaigned for this area to become a nature reserve so you can imagine how thrilled I am that this has become a reality and I'm so thrilled to be asked to open the area officially.
"When I became county councillor in 2004, I made it my mission to improve the seven acres by planting more trees with the help of Garry Davies, Howard Sutcliffe and countryside services team. This was achieved by planting hundreds of native trees along with fruit trees such as apple, pear and cherry which are now becoming mature.
"Pathways were laid zig zagging throughout the area for better access.
"Local residents find it a peaceful place too visit especially dog walkers," she added.
"We have also added a special gateway to ensure access for disabled wheelchair users who, without going to far, suddenly find themselves in the countryside.
"There is much more we could do to improve this area should funding become available.I want to make sure residents living in this area will always have this peaceful area to visit and relax."
Cllr Chamberlain-Jones is also keen to protect the wildlife habitat and the environment.
She said: "Nesting boxes have been attached to some of the trees with bug dens built to attract insects."
A spokesperson from Denbighshire County Council said: "Protecting the nature reserve is part of the Council’s work to enhance the environment."
