A 22-year-old Abergele woman is set to go face-to-face with a 10 foot tiger shark as a charity fundraiser in memory of her grandad.
Annwen Davies will dive into the Caribbean reef tank at the Blue Planet Aquarium, Chester, on March 23 where she will get up close and personal with the shark in an attempt to raise funds for St David's Hospice, who helped care for her grandad.
She will wear full scuba equipment but there won’t be a cage for protection.
Ms Davies said: "Annwen said: “The shark dive has been on my bucket list for years and now I’ve found the courage to do it, I thought what better reason to do it than for St David’s Hospice.
“I think the experience will be amazing. I'm feeling excited but nervous at the same time.
"My friends and family think I'm mad, but they're also proud that I’m doing it for such a good cause.
“St David's Hospice looked after my Grandad in the final stages of his life and I can’t thank them enough for everything they did for him before he sadly passed away.
“I hope the money raised benefits more people like my Grandad and their families that are going through a hard time.”
St David’s Hospice, Conwy Area Fundraiser James Wilde said: “Working with the ‘Hospice Heroes’ I’ve seen many fantastic ways that our supporters have raised money for us.
"This is the first time I have met a supporter wanting to do a shark dive for the Hospice.
“I think it will be an incredible experience for Annwen, something she’ll remember for the rest of her life, a great way to remember her grandad and a unique way to raise funds and awareness for St David’s Hospice.
"I look forward to seeing how she gets on!”
