RESIDENTS across Wales who think they could survive on a desert island are being encourage to put themselves forward for a new series.

Applications for The Island with Bear Grylls have opened.

If successful, challengers will be stripped of all the comforts of civilisation.

On the application form, it states: "21st century Britain, we have never been further removed from our hunter-gatherer origins and many of the practical skills that were once passed from generation to generation have been lost.

"On the most recent series of The Island With Bear Grylls, a cross section of ordinary British men and women were challenged to see if they could survive for five weeks, abandoned totally alone on an uninhabited Pacific island. They had to battle the fierce tropical storm season, find, catch and kill their own food and stave off the dangers of crippling dehydration.

"When pushed to the edge of existence, would you have what it takes to survive on The Island?"

No experience of adventure or survival is necessary.
