A NEW free car park has opened in Rhyl town centre.
The 20-space, 24 hour short-stay facility on Queen Street will offer free parking until 10.30am and after 5pm every day.
Cllr Brian Jones, Denbighshire County Council’s lead member for highways, planning and sustainable travel, said: “As part of the work we are undertaking to develop a new master plan for the town centre, residents have told us it needs to be easier to access.
“This new car park in Queen Street, together with the one which will open later this year on the site of the former post office in Water Street, will help to address this concern.”
The opening of the Queen Street car park follows on from the closure of the car park formerly known as Rhyl Underground Car Park on West Parade for improvement works.
Signage has also been improved to direct motorists to other car parks at the Sky Tower, Morley Road, West Kinmel Street, the Pavilion Theatre and Quay Street.
Denbigshire council leader Hugh Evans said: “The improvement of the underground car park forms an important part of the wider regeneration work in the town by making it easier for residents and visitors to access parking spaces.
“We appreciate it is a busy period to close a town centre car park, but it is vitally important the car park is finished in time for the opening of SC2 at Easter 2019 so users of the new attraction get a positive experience from all aspects of their visit to Rhyl.”
"The regeneration of Rhyl is part of the council’s corporate priority to support economic prosperity."
