THERE has been a changing of the guard at a Rhyl care home.
Dr Malcolm Pritchard has been elected as new deputy chairman at Dolanog Residential Home.
The well-known retired GP took on the top role after two long-term members stepped down.
Rufus Adams, an active figure in the town's Rhyl Music Club and history club, had served as trustee for 21 years and six years as deputy chairman. John P Williams also bowed out after many years.
The changes were made during an annual meeting of trustees, which took place at the award-winning home located on Russell Road.
Joining Dr Malcolm Pritchard on the board of unpaid volunteers trustees are Richard Davies and Ruth Blunden.
Mr Adams, 83, said: "I have been there for 21 years. They were wonderful years.
"It has been a privilege to be a trustee and to serve the community. There has been many changes over the years - people came to us in their early 70s, now they come into our care in their 80s and 90s. Everyone is living longer and we want to live longer, but with that comes ageing aliments.
"Those at Dolanog see the change. We are not in it to make money. Profits is not the motive. The motive is giving to the elderly and to the infirm. It is a wonderful home.
"John had been there for about seven or eight years. There are always events and it is important to mix with staff and residents and be present."
Presentations were made on behalf of the trustees and staff of Dolanog to both retiring members by chairman Michael McEvoy.
"Their contributions over a long period have been invaluable," he said.
"Rufus and John have seen Dolanog undergo major renovations and enhancements in recent years in order to reinforce its reputation as one of the outstanding caring environments in North Wales."
