TWO choirs are to join forces for a performance at one of the most spectacular churches in North Wales.
The Hawarden Singers will partner with Cor Cilcain for a concert of reflective music at St Margaret’s Church, Bodelwyddan.
Both choirs are said to be rehearsing with “great enthusiasm” for the Palm Sunday event.
The concert features pieces specifically chosen for the Easter season, including music by Karl Jenkins Philip Stopford and Tchaikovsky, followed by Fauré’s Requiem.
Richard Steventon, a member of Hawarden Singers, said: “The choirs have sang together before, but this is quite an ambitious performance.
“It would be quite difficult for either choir to do the piece on their own. There should be about 50 to 60 voices, so it should be quite something.”
Malcolm Williams, musical director of both choirs, said it had been his ambition for some years to bring both choirs together to sing the powerful piece by Fauré.
The choirs previously came together a couple of years ago to perform Vivaldi Gloria.
The event at St Magaret’s, also known as the Marble Church, will give parishioners – who have not yet heard it – the opportunity to enjoy music played on the church’s new electric organ.
Music will be played by John Liddon-Few who will takeover as full-time organist at the church from Easter Sunday.
Richard added: “This will be a memorable afternoon.
“It will be the first time John has played the new organ for audiences.”
The concert will be held on Sunday, March 25 at 3pm. Admission is free but there will be a retiring collection.
