A BUSINESS owner who is turning 70 this year is still enjoying the “thrill" of the fashion world and has set up shop at a bigger premise after trading from the same base for 44 years.
Tim Williams set up Bon, at 104 Prestatyn High Street, in the 70s. Mr Williams, who is married to Ann, has now relocated further up the street to 121.
The fashion lover said despite trading in the same shop for 40 years, some customers would walk in and say they had ‘never noticed the shop’.
Mr Williams, who has a grown up family, has now been able to relocate to a bigger, double fronted shop with greater floor space and larger stock room.
"Despite the wrench, we decided to relocate a little further up the street," he said.
"We had been in the same shop for 40 years, but despite this, when new faces came into the shop, many remarked they had never noticed the shop with its small frontage.
"Then this opportunity arose to expand.
"I took over the shop in 1973. It had already been trading as a men’s wear shop, all be it a very old fashion one.
“I started in menswear where i left school. First, for a national company and then I moved as a manager to Horesh' in the High Street, an independently owned shop in Rhyl.
“It was a great time for the High Street and for the young discovering fashion. It gave me a great grounding in the trade. Exciting times followed when I branched out on my own with help from my wife Ann and we quickly built up a good business.”
Over the years, Bon has followed the trend and stocks “major” fashion brands.
“We are always looking for the next big name to hit the street,” Mr Williams added.
“Prestatyn has changed so much over the years. It is a sleepy town, boosted every Summer by an influx of holiday makers. Like many towns, it had a slowdown in the 90s but thanks to our loyal customers, we have kept a good business.
“The opening of the shopping parc has lifted Prestatyn to a new level and thanks to an active business forum and a positive town council, the high street is showing a revival."
Mr Williams has lived in the town since 1965. Despite turning 70 this year, the businessman has no plans to slow down.
He said: “I still enjoy the thrill of the buying trips to London and of course, the selling to my many friends and new customers.
“We have been trading online for six years - this is a growing part of my business.
“My motto is to keep looking forward and never stand still."
