Published on 12/01/2022
JONES Margaret (nee Boyle) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Jones on January 1st 2022 after a brief illness. She was born in South Shields in 1927 as the youngest of five children and grew up during the Depression and the war. Her house was one of those that took a direct hit during the bombing but thankfully everyone was sheltered that night. After the war, she moved to North Wales, working in the kitchen of the old isolation hospital in Colwyn Bay. She met and married Richard Jones, who was serving in the Merchant Navy. After a spell in St Asaph, they emigrated to Canada in 1956 where their only son, Clive, was born. After returning to the UK, they lived in Cwmbran (where she worked as a school meals cook) and London before returning to North Wales to retire. Margaret and Richard enjoyed a wonderful retirement together with long walks, overseas vacations and the treasured annual visits of their grandchildren, Hannah and Nick. Richard died in 2008, and Margaret eventually moved into Tan Y Fron in Llandudno, where she was one of the first residents in the Extra Care facility. Her last move was to Bradshaw Manor in Rhyl. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard, her siblings Jimmy, Ellen (Nellie), Mary, and Peter; her nephew Derek and niece June. She is survived by her son, Clive and daughter-in-law Ann-Marie, grandchildren Hannah and Nicholas (all living in Canada), nephews Jimmy (and Sybil), Alan (and Joan), Richard, Brian (and Carole), and nieces Jackie (within whose extended family she was known as Great Auntie Peggy), Gillian, Sheila and Beverley. Margaret was a great storyteller and even towards the end, she could weave together complex memories that vividly described her early life in South Shields, and everyone she subsequently met down the years. The realities of travel during COVID will delay a proper marking of her life. However, Margaret will be long remembered by all who knew her.
