A COURTYARD transformed into a nightmarish spot for ITV's I'm a Celebrity...Get Mr Out of Here! will soon be done away with to make way for a castle's restoration.

The 'Clink' was the second camp created for celebrities during the show held at Gwrych Castle near Abergele in 2021.

In the 'Clink', celebrities had to shower in the dark and sleep on the floor. The area was described as "cramped" and "claustrophobic" and certainly wasn't loved by the campmates.

Now The Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust are saying goodbye to the area to make way for the restoration of the roofs and floors at the castle.

A spokesperson for the trust said: “We’ve had great use of the Clink since it was built in 2021 by the I’m A Celebrity team.

"We’re looking forward to the next phase of the project and the castle’s visitor route."

Last year, Gwrych Castle secured £2.2m from the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) as part of their Covid-19 Response.

The funding will allow the Gwrych Preservation Trust to rescue the Castle’s 'corps de logis' [main block] from imminent collapse by undertaking urgent repairs that had been halted due to the closure of the castle and monetary support not being available as a result of the 19 pandemic.

Permanent roofs and floors is something the castle has been without for many years.

Items from inside the 'Clink' will be moved elsewhere in the castle.

The spokesperson added: "The frontage was custom built for the show out of wood and plaster coating and was designed to look like it was part of the castle. This area was used to make the show 'more gruelling than ever', with six campmates having to live at the 'Clink' for a few days."

Fans of the show can see the 'Clink' before it is removed. It will be on site for the next three or four weeks.
