RHYL’s hopes of a top six place at the Dafabet Welsh Premier League split suffered a blow as they were thrashed 4-0 at Cardiff Met.
It was an unsuccessful trip to the capital for Niall McGuinness’ side, who have now suffered back-to-back league defeats and will look to halt the slide when they host Carmarthen Town on Saturday (2.30pm).
The Lilywhites boss, said: “We were not good enough at all today.
“We are going to have to strip back and make sure we get it right now heading into the final nine games before the split, and I am confident we can do so.”
It was a nightmare start to proceedings for the visitors, who fell behind after just five minutes when Eliot Evans finished well at the back post to give the home side a dream start.
Things went from bad-to-worse on nine minutes when a towering header from Will Evans found a way past Owen Evans to double the students’ advantage.
The away side were all at sea and conceded a third on 14 minutes when Kyle McCarthy fired home from the penalty spot.
After the break saw more dominance from the hosts, who almost put the exclamation point on proceedings on 63 minutes when Adam Roscrow failed to find the target from close range.
They eventually got a fourth on 75 minutes when Met talisman Jordan Lam rounded off another exceptional performance with a goal to confirm the rout.
The result leaves the Lilies in eighth position while the newly promoted side surge up to fifth with the race for the top six set to go down to the wire.
