PRESTATYN skipper David Harris paid a high price for his side’s impressive 109-run over rivals Northop Hall after he broke his foot in action.

The captain suffered the injury by landing awkwardly when going for a single - but did not discover the true extent until he went to hospital for an X-ray on Monday.

Harris expects to be out for a few weeks, but hopes to return to action before the season is out.

He said: “I thought it was alright until yesterday (Sunday) and I decided to get it checked out at hospital today (Monday), and they told me I’ve got a broken heel. So there goes cricket for a couple of weeks for me!”

Harris heaped praise on all-rounder Danny Davies, whose devastating 89 knock and six-wicket haul were instrumental in last weekend’s win.

With a trip Maghull this weekend, Harris is also backing Prestatyn to make it three-wins on the bounce.

He added: “Danny was outstanding. It’s nice to see him start to fire on all cylinders.

“We beat them [Maghull] quite comfortable at home, but it might be a different story away. We go there with confidence after two wins over Wigan and Northop Hall, so we’ll try and make it three in a row.

“If we win, it keeps us out of the drop-zone and makes things more comfortable for us.”

A sparkling 89 from Davies, as well as a fine 49 from Daniel Williams and 36 from Gareth Boughey helped Prestatyn declare for an imposing 238-8 against Northop.

Davies posted 6-45 while Sampath Perera claimed 3-41, including the wicket of dangerman Ammar Mahmood for a golden duck, as the visitors could only muster 129 in their response before being bowled out.

Prestatyn seconds faltered to a heavy 185-run loss at Spring View last weekend. They host Sutton seconds this Saturday, while the third team are at Widnes thirds on Sunday.
