MOVING tributes have been paid to a 'wonderful' mum and owner of a care home for 40 years.
Mrs Edna Roose owned Bron Haul Care Home in Rhyl. She died aged 89 on Monday, March 22 after a short illness.
Mrs Roose become the owner of Bron Haul Care Home on Brighton Road in 1977. Prior to purchasing the home, the mum to Margaret, Philip, Debbie, Rachelle and Mark, ran a guest house with her late husband Peter in Westbourne Avenue for many years before moving to Water Street to open a cafe which they called Roose's. It was popular with son Philip saying "most of Rhyl" would had visited over the years, including the Rhyl fishing fleet.
Mrs Roose had many grandchildren.
She was born in Rhuddlan and went to Glyndwr school in Rhyl. She left school and became a nurse and worked in the War Memorial Hospital in Grange Road.
She was married to her late husband for more than 50 years.
Philip said: "After a short illness, my mum passed away in my arms at home in the early hours of Monday 22."
Talking about how the purchase of the care home came about, Philip said: "As well as her children, my mum had another family living above the cafe with us - Evan, Muriel, George and Phyllis. They were patients from the North Wales Hospital Denbigh who mum really cared for.
"It was then mum told us she wanted to move and buy Bron Haul on Brighton road. This was in 1977.
"I think Bron Haul was meant for mum in life. Over the years she has cared for hundreds of residents, she used to take them all over the county and on trips.
"She always used to call Bron Haul her family.
"Hundreds of people in Rhyl knew mum from youngsters - those who had their first jobs in Roose's to families all over the country whose relatives mum cared for.
"Mum loved the theatre, especially Theatre in the Community (TiC) in Rhyl who treated mum like a queen. I know she would like all donations to go those children who’ve had an horrendous year.
"When I returned from the Hillsborough disaster, mum was there for me and I hope in the last 14 years since dad passed away, I’ve been there for mum.
"She was just a wonderful mum my mum who was loved by everyone she met.
"She will be very sadly missed by everyone."
Mrs Roose's funeral will be held at St Thomas's Church at 12pm on Wednesday, March 31 (Covid restrictions will be adhered to).
Mrs Roose will be taken by Bron Haul at about 11am to 11.30pm
Philip said donations in memory of his mum can be given to TiC.
