The Newtown Shopping Experience

Newtown's origins as a market town date back to the 13th century when the first market was held on a Tuesday. That tradition has been maintained for 700 years. Today the town provides all the essentials for the residents and serves the villages in this beautiful part of Powys. Retailers include a mix of a few national stores and a good range of local independents retailing all manner of goods from designer fashions through to DIY and garden products. There's also a great selection of places to eat and drink including inns and pubs dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The historic setting and many architectural gems make the Newtown a good choice for a shopping trip with a sense of history attached.
