A HOUSING association which owns properties in 14 Welsh counties, including Conwy and Denbighshire, may sell some of its homes which it has said are “not right for us to keep”.

Wales & West Housing, which provides social accommodation across the country, has said “conversations and considerations are ongoing” regarding which homes may be sold.

It was unable to say yet where the homes that may be sold are located.

This follows the new Welsh Housing Quality Standard, which introduced the need for housing associations to have a long-term plan to bring all social rented homes up to “EPC A” energy efficiency standards.

A Wales & West Housing spokesperson said: “We want all our homes to be warm and affordable for residents now and in the future.

“To meet this standard, we have started a project to look at all the styles and types of homes we own across Wales, so we can understand what work is needed to bring them up to the new standard and the costs involved.

“At the heart of this are the people living in our homes and we want to have the right homes in which our residents can thrive.

“In some cases, as we continue to survey our homes for energy efficiency, there will be a small number of homes that are not right for us to keep.

“Where this is the case, we will either wait until the resident moves out and those homes are empty, or on rare occasions we will speak to the resident and if they want to move, we will support them to find and move into another home.”

Wales & West added that the new homes it is building are all designed to meet the highest energy efficiency standards.

This includes its current site at Llys Onnen, Abergele, where it is building 43 new homes.

The spokesperson added: “These homes are designed and built to be warmer, so the people living there should have lower costs to run their home.”
